Tom is an experienced mixed methodology researcher, with a particular specialism in conducting research among the public on highly complex topics – he works with clients including Human Rights Watch, Thames Water and the Payment Systems Regulator.
Tom leads our research on issues relating to Brexit, and has conducted studies on this issue for corporate clients, government departments and think tanks. Since January 2017, he has led our “Brexit Diaries” research, which has informed understanding of public opinion on Brexit. This work has received significant media attention in publications such as the Guardian and New Statesman, with Tony Blair labelling it “required reading”.
Prior to joining BritainThinks, Tom led the ComRes Financial Services Research Team, with clients including the Financial Conduct Authority, the Money Advice Service and TSB.
Tom has a double first-class degree in Modern Languages from the University of Cambridge, as well as an M.Phil. in European Politics from the University of Oxford. Tom speaks French and German to a level where he facilitates qualitative research in these languages.
Tom is also a regular speaker at industry conferences, and is a member of the MRS and the AQR.
